AGBL was proud to participate in the inauguration of the Centre of Excellence in Molecular Medicine set up at the National Institute of Blood Diseases (NIBD) and Bone Marrow Transplant, under the patronage of Dr. Tahir Shamsi, Consultant Haematologist & Transplant Physician, Director, Stem Cell Program and Professor of Haematology.
The Center has been developed to offer early diagnosis, prevention and treatment of inherited diseases at molecular level. The state of the art facility has a division of genomics where the Illumina MiSeq system will be used to screen patients with various genetic disorders including, Thalassemia, Leukemia, as well as other cancers. The center also performs over 60 Bone Marrow Transplants per year.
The event was organized on a national level where researchers and medical professionals where invited from all across Pakistan. With over 250 attendees at the conference, AGBL presented on; “Illumina Solutions for Genetic Testing” and ‘’ Cell Separation and Sample preparation for Downstream NGS application’’.
The establishment was inaugurated by Pakistan Medical and Research Council (PMDC) Director, Dr Huma Qureshi. Renowned haematologist, Dr. Saqib Ansari, President Pakistan Association of Pathology, Prof. Dr Sohail Chughtai, and Vice Chancellor Indus University, Dr Khalid Amin also spoke at the event.
