AGBL participated in the Middle East Medical Assembly (MEMA) which took place in Beirut, Lebanon at the American University of Beirut from May 12th – 15th 2016. This conference is organized yearly by the University.

This year’s MEMA will be exploring a relatively new field of medicine, “Precision Medicine”. In this emerging approach of disease prevention and treatment, an individual’s genes, environment and lifestyle are taken into consideration when developing a treatment plan. However, precision medicine isn’t nearly as widespread as advocates want it to be. In addition to its tradition of bringing together physicians, nurses, residents, students and other healthcare professionals from Lebanon and the region, MEMA 2016 brought together multiple stakeholders, including molecular diagnostics companies and genome analysis/interpretation companies. The program of the assembly provided attendees with a holistic view of precision medicine, whilst lecturers from Europe and USA enriched this year’s MEMA program.MEMA Pic
