The conference will be held at Wolkite University in Ethiopia on the 6th & 7th of May 2016.

Grand theme: Microbial Biodiversity Conservation for Sustainable Food Security and Industrial Application.

The 2nd Annual Conference of Ethiopian Society for Microbiology (ESM) is organized to create
forum for microbiology professions, stakeholders, and Postgraduate students. The platform will
be used for communication of scientific findings, challenges being faced and possible solutions
in teaching of microbiology courses, issues of microbial biodiversity conservation, the necessity
of collaborative venture between industries and the professional society for mutual benefit, and
other cross cutting issues. More than 20 research papers and 10 posters will be presented in
addition to the main issues to be addressed during the plenary session in line with the Grand
Theme of the conference.
The attendees of ESM conference are microbiologists working in different sectors (Teaching,
agriculture, industries, Health, etc), postgraduate students, representatives of collaborating
institutions and stakeholders, invited guests from government offices (including policy makers),
and leaders of other sister professional societies. Thus, a total of 200+ participants will attend the
conference. Having attended the conference, the microbiology professionals (both senior and
juniors) will benefit from the recent progresses in microbiology research, the young staffs share
experience from their seniors on how to deal with technical limitation both during teaching of
microbiology courses and conducting microbiological research (resource issue), and make link
among each other for sustainable collaboration. The stakeholders will have access to potential
expertise who can work with their institution as potential resource persons for current and future
reference. Thus, representatives of different industries, research institutions and governmental
offices will have their saying on how to work together for effective utilization of the trained
manpower in the field of microbiology. The policy makers will also get an input as to where to
think of for further revision or strengthening of microbiological issues specially the issues of
safety and microbiological standards. The society (ESM) will serve as point of reference for such
arrangement. As the best actors will be acknowledged at the end of the conference, the active
staffs will get motivation to keep up their pace and the others will also be positively influenced,
the ultimate goal of which is delivery of professional services to the community.
