Illumina is a US-based company, established in 1998. Illumina’s vision is to be the leading provider of integrated solutions that advance the understanding of genetics and health. Their main purpose is to improve human health by accelerating the collection, analysis and application of biological information. Their innovative technologies allow the studies of genetic variations and functions, whilst their revolutionary tools enable researchers to make rapid progress in the research of diseases, drug development and molecular tests in the clinical field.

Genotyping

Illmunia has fundamentally changed the approach of high-density microarrays and allows the analysis of a broad range of DNA and RNA applications. Based on the diverse range of chips to detect and analyse a wide range of human, agriculture and custom markers, the iScan and HiScan are the devices of choice when looking for Cytogenetic analysis, Genotyping or Copy number variation analysis.

Next Generation Sequencing

With obtaining sequencing data in less than a day and preparation of up to 96 libraries at a time, Illumina has revolutionized the sequencing market. With a wide range of applications, such as whole genome and de novo sequencing, targeted resequencing or amplicon verifications, Illumina’s sequencing platforms provide a solution for every lab and budget. The ever so popular bench-top sequencer MiSeq allows the generation of data in less than 24h, whilst Illumina’s high-throughput system HiSeq 2500 allows sequencing of whole human genomes, generating data from as little as 47Gb up to 600 Gb.

With the latest addition of sequencing platforms, such as the MiniSeqNextSeq 500, and the HiSeq X Ten, Illumina is closing the gap between the MiSeq and the HiSeq 2500.

With its walkaway sample-to-results solution and the highest data output of any desktop sequencer with up 120Gb, the NextSeq 500 Sequencing System allows sequencing projects such as Exome and Transcriptome to be completed more efficiently.

The HiSeq X Ten Sequencing System can deliver more than five genomes per day versus one genome on the HiSeq 2500, making the $1,000 genome a reality.

The proven and ever so popular TruSeq and Nextera library preparation kits enable fast sample preparation and support end-to-end solutions from DNA to data. Their library kits range from simple DNA or RNA preparations to targeted sequencing such Methylation, Cancer or Exome analysis.

FDA cleared IVD Next Generation sequencing

The MiSeqDx instrument is the first and only FDA-cleared in vitro diagnostic (IVD) next-generation sequencing (NGS) system. Designed specifically for the clinical laboratory environment, and an easy-to-follow workflow, the MiSeqDX offers data output tailored to the needs of clinical labs. In addition, MiSeqDX’s integrated software allows user to track their samples, perform user traceability whilst analyzing and interpretation of results. Taking advantage of the proven Illumina sequencing by synthesis (SBS) chemistry, the MiSeqDx instrument provides accurate, reliable screening, and diagnostic testing.
